Getting ready for Hurricane season

As the hurricane season begins keeping your tiki in hurricane ready condition is important.
Our crews harvest about 10,000 palm fronds a week. We use the Sabal Palm that is also the Florida State tree. We have to search ranch land and gain permissions to cut large amounts, often having to pay in upwards of .30 cents a frond. This is the hardest part of our job. It is not fun to be in 95 degree heat walking through swamp land and talking loudly to hopefully fend off snakes and gators. I have learned over the years to take my machete and swipe it across the ground in front of the palm to chase off any unwanted guests.

TIKI HUT & TIKI BAR BUILT IN PORT ST. LUCIE FL

(Click on above photos to enlarge pictures)
Big Kahuna Tiki Huts just completed a project for a client in Port St. Lucie FL. We built a tiki hut using hand selected Florida native cypress poles. The solid cypress poles have been hewn to a smooth blonde finish. The thatched roof is made from fresh cut Florida palm fronds.

We also built a custom 8 foot + 8 foot + 8 foot tiki bar with bamboo front. Cypress countertop is 2″ thick x 22″ to 24″ in width. Cypress countertop has half-round cypress on bar edge. Bar has an application of polyurethane applied, a cabinet, place for customer’s refrigerator, and a custom built 8 foot long prep counter.

We received a call from our client yesterday and he was very excited about his new tiki hut & tiki bar and he can’t wait to start enjoying it this weekend!

Tiki Hut Tiki Bar for Restaurant in Ft. Myers Beach FL

Big Kahuna Tiki Huts just completed a project for a restaurant in Ft. Myers Beach FL. We custom built a tiki hut tiki bar for them to serve customers at the new tiki bar. Instead of using fresh cut palm fronds for the thatching we used mexican raincape.

The restaurant owner was very excited about the work and couldn't wait to start serving customers at the tiki bar!

Tiki Hut pool kitchen

Talk about a gorgeous pool area! The company I work for builds tiki huts all over the state of Florida. One of our customers had us build an authentic tiki hut over their pool kitchen. What a great finishing touch to their beautiful pool area. I just couldn't resist sharing these pictures.

As you can see, there are seats around the counter area in the pool. The chef keeps dry while cooking (or bartending!) and the guests don't even have to get out of the water to enjoy whatever is being served.

Tiki Hut with sunken kitchen

We built an authentic 20 foot round tiki hut with a 5 foot thatched cupola in a customers backyard beside their lake. The poles were made from Florida native cypress hewn to a smooth blond finish. The thatched roof was made from fresh Florida palm fronds individually attached to create shelter from the rain and tropical sun.

A tropical tiki hut bar shifts people into a party/vacation mode and the good times begin. Tiki huts (“grass huts”) often are found on tropical resorts in vacation islands. Today, more and more people are finding they can create this tropical paradise in their own back yard for year around enjoyment. The tiki huts provide a great addition to any poolside venue creating a distinctive, island-type atmosphere without leaving home.

Big Kahuna Tiki Huts builds quality custom tiki huts and bars with high quality construction and workmanship throughout Florida. Catering to both commercial and residential, we build exactly to the customer's specifications.Hosting a tropical party in your backyard under your tiki hut along with Jimmy Buffet music and fresh margaritas in the blender will definitely get the good times rolling.
